Aaaaa I dunno. I got tired of guys having no idea why girls find female superhero’s costumes kinda sexist, so I, um, made this?

My main goals were: 1) Make it so the first thing you think of when you look at them is sex, whether you want to or not. 2) make it so that any male human who looks at this feels really uncomfortable. 3) make it funny, because, well, it’s kinda hilarious really.

Not trying to start a war here, just wanted to poke a bit of fun.

Bicycle Mechanic Adventure part 2: Wheel Valves, Rust Removers and More Paint!:

OKAY, so after a couple of weeks of not doing anything to the bike, I managed to borrow a bike pump from my friend and discovered that my wheel has an incompatible valve. I went a-googling and found this. Apparently mine is a schrader valve, so I’m going to have to look for a pump that can pump it! Click the link to learn more about types of bicycle valves.

In other news, I’ve been mostly taking off rusts from the rear rack, and discovered this AMAZING PRODUCT:

It took most of the rust of the rear rack without me having to scrub it down with sandpaper (though I already did last week, to not much avail). It’s great cuz’ you don’t need to wear gloves to use it, it’s really friendly, and it gives off a polish like your mamma never could.

In the meantime I’ve been trying to take the bike apart to paint the parts, but it’s taking me a while to figure out how to get the chainguard off. I managed to remove the front fender and the other parts attached to the fork, but haven’t gotten to any of the backwheel components. Dad’s trying to help me out here.

I also put some paint stripper on the front fender last week to peel off the old paint. Let me say— I’ve never used paint stripper before. I didn’t know how it would work, or if it could work.Paint stripper is fantastic.

The Boyfriend was against painting the front fender with the tiny parts still together, but I don’t think I had a choice since the screws were terrible to the point where I can’t take them off anymore. It turned out well, though.

Next week: More polishing the rear rack (I now realize how dirty that sounds) and taking apart the rest of the bike!

Bicycle Mechanic Adventure part 1: Painting the Rims

The first part of my BMA would be to paint the rims. There were so many tutorials online, and a satisfactory video with some good tips. But if you plan on painting the rims of your tires, the best tutorials would be the ones that teach you all about dismantling a bike. Bikeforums.net is a great place to find tutorials if you can’t find it with google. One thing I found about the tutorials is that you really have to know the parts of your bike:

Most tutorials would mention to put your bike on a bike stand thingee before doing anything for your bike, and I would agree with them if buying one was going to be an investment. :| A lot of the DIY videos I found online though just had their bicycles upside-down, resting on the balance between the seat and the handlebars. So guess what I did.

Yup.

Earlier that day my family went shopping, so I pestered my dad to come with me to help me buy tools for the bicycle. Being female, of course, I didn’t know what would come in handy, or what we already had at home. He bought me an awesome adjustable wrench (which I never even knew EXISTED) and recommended a paint stripper to melt away the paint easily when I start working on the frame. I bought some sanding paper (150 I-don’t-know-what-the-measurement-system-for-sandpaper-is) because everyone seemed to be recommending it for rusts.

And then later at the checkout counter, my dad rushes back into the store and grabs 2 pairs of gloves for me, so that my hands don’t get hurt too much (aww). One pair for painting and one for greasing.

All set!

We also bought some white spray paint and some clear spray paint for the coloring.

So of course I get home and I’m all excited— I’ll change both wheels today, no problem! Here are the steps:

Unfasten the screws on the front wheel
Unfasten the screws on the back wheel
Take both wheels out and put them on the ground
Remove rubber parts
Cover spokes in newspaper + tape (individually)
Spray paint! 2 coats of white, 1 coat of clear.
Do everything again, but in reverse.

Sounds simple aside from the hassle of covering the spokes! I thought it would take 2 hours tops. UH. Such a noob.

Taking out the front wheel was simple enough, there were only 2 identical screw arrangements there, and they weren’t difficult to disassemble. The back wheel was a bit trickier. My bike has a very different, very vintage brake system at the back, plus the complicated arrangement that is the chainguard. My dad insisted on helping me with the back wheel dismantling, since it was so complicated.

My dad is awesome.

In the end we couldn’t get the back wheel out. We were missing the phillips head screwdriver, and we needed a special wrench to take out the chainguard. So I guess that’ll have to wait until BMA part 2. In the meantime I could work on the front wheel.

The rubber part of the wheel was easily removed with a good flathead, though I don’t recommend it. There is a tool specifically for removing tires from rims, which you should probably get, but I probably won’t bother. Don’t forget to deflate before removing from the rim!

The first thing I noticed was that some of the spokes were terribly rusty, so I got crackin’ on that sandpaper. Dad taught me to use only little squares of it at a time, then went back upstairs to retire as I got all manly and mechanic-like.

I quickly learned that the gloves would have to be worn while sanding. Rubbing the metal with the sandpaper creates a lot of heat from the friction, and your skin could get burnt really easily if you’re not careful.

This was around an hour and a half into BMA part 1. It was 11:30pm and Louie was adorable enough to keep me company.

After around an hour of sanding and finding out that rust makes for the worst dirt-in-your-eye scenarios, the spokes were finally rust-free and shiny! Then it was time to wrap the spokes, to prevent paint from getting on them and making them look dirty. Usually they recommend using masking tape around the spokes. I didn’t have any masking tape (foresight, fail) so I wrapped bits of newspaper around the spokes and taped them there with the only scotch tape I had available.

And just so you know, it took FOREVER.

And then the easy part: Painting! 2 coats of white spray paint and 1 coat of clear. Use short strokes a little bit away from the surface; if you spray too close the paint gets too thick and starts to run. The only challenging part of this one was patience! While I was waiting for the coats to dry I sanded off some rusty parts of the bike and found out that the metal used for the pedals is this copper-like metal, cuz’ when I sanded it the metal underneath was pinkish. Hmm. Have to ask dad about that next time, and should I paint over it, then?

And it was done! The two dots in the bottom were these buttons that hid the cogs in the pedals, decided to paint those too while I was waiting for the paint on the rim to dry.

Putting the tire back on the rim was tricky— just so you know, there are 4 parts of a tire (I learned all of this when I disassembled it): the rubber (the part you see), the inner tube (the part that gets inflated), the rubber strip (a rubber strip that protects the inner tube from the screws on the inside of the rim), and the rim. The inner tube goes into the rubber, which then fits into the rim. I realigned the rubber strip first, made sure that the inner tube was inside the rubber and then lined it onto the rim. My sister and the good flathead had to help me with putting on the last bit of tire.

Place it back onto the fork and the front rim is done! Finish time was at 2am, status was extremely filthy with a ruined manicure, but TOTALLY WORTH IT. Next week: the back rim and dismantling the entire bike so we could get started on that frame!

Bicycle Mechanic Adventure part 0

So the other day Levi came over to the house on his bike, and I got so excited about it that I asked if I could ride it. He agreed and that made me all giddy; I hadn’t ridden a bicycle since I was 12, and my bicycle had long since been sold after we moved houses. We were moving to a house in an open village so I wasn’t going to be allowed to bike as often as I wanted to. My brother’s bike was kept with us to the new house so the help could use it to run errands, but when I asked for it to be brought out later that day, it was a sorry mess: the tires were flat, the seat was destroyed, the handlebars had been replaced by metal pipes, and the brakes had to be completely replaced.

Later that day when I tried out Levi’s bicycle, I couldn’t reach the seat! I was able to ride it around with some help getting up, but riding it around made me feel so nostalgic that I decided to buy a bicycle of my own.

I looked around the internet for a good, cheap leisure bicycle after that. I didn’t want a mountain bike like Levi’s since I wasn’t going to be doing any hardcore biking, I suppose I just liked the idea of owning a nice bike again. I found that the type of bicycle that I wanted was a japanese city bike, and I found some great vintage second-hand ones in bzkleta. It was a great find since their shop and warehouse were near my area, so I decided to go the next day to find one. The owner was so nice as to tell me to call him if they gave me a price that was too high!

The next day I paid them a visit and bought a beautiful vintage Japanese bicycle for the extremely reasonable price of 2500php:

The frame and silhouette is gorgeous, and it has a basket in the front which I LOVE, but parts of it are rusty and I had to have the front brake fixed. The entire thing is painted a weird silver from it’s youthful days, and though it’s super cool and vintage-y, it felt sad. I took it for a spin and found that it was a bit wobbly to ride, which (after a google) I found was because one of the wheels was not “true”, and will have to be trued.

SO. I took it upon myself to BELOFY THIS BICYCLE. I will take it apart, shine it up, remove the rusts, paint it and GIVE IT LIFE ONCE MORE. I will take it slowly, repairing/ repainting parts every Sunday and learning more about bikes along the way.

The palette for my bike will be based on this peg!

There will be some peg adjustments, of course. The fenders on mine will have to be painted either white or silver, depending on whether the paint will wear off or not. Also, my bike has a full chainguard, so I’ll have to decide on how I’m going to paint that too. I want it blue, but I will paint it a cerulean blue with my name and logo as the paint detail, to make it unique.

My schedule for this project will be Saturdays and Sundays, depending on the time it would take to adjust each part. :) I will be taking my know-how from links on the internet and youtube videos, but if something will get too complicated for lil’ old me I will have that part brought to a professional repair shop, but only that part. The entire rehasing will have to be done by me. All this will be done in my garage, and each belo session will be duly documented and blogged the next day.

I’ve been beta testing it and I can confirm it’s actually the greatest app ever. Full iOS release date is as specified, Android release this Spring.

It’s so intense, at one point during the first mission when radio contact was lost, I could hear them trying to contact me “Can you hear us?!” and I literally grabbed the mic and shouted, “I CAN HEAR YOU WHAT DO I DO?” even though that’s not how it works.

I’m just glad nobody was near me.

A swimming pool. I am on a mission to get more sponsors for my dad’s fun run (oh, subconscious) and trying to convince the prince of bolivia to sponsor. He is swimming and I impress him by hanging on to a bar like a monkey, and keep hanging on even if he tries to pry my fingers open. He concedes, and goes off to hang out with his girlfriend, who is the twin of the girlfriend of a former flame.

Enter the princess of bolivia, who is also an actress/ socialite. I manage to convince her to sign some papers through keeping the secret of her location. She invites me to a cruise. As we get on the private boat, she introduces me to the royal family. I notice Christa sitting somewhere in the back! We are excited to see each other. I notice my sister and brother is there, and my brother is playing guitar hero with the princess.

A graveyard, a parade, panic. The king is somewhere in the crowd, and I have to find him. As I do I try to summon my weapons (they are powered by my will) but they refuse to show. The king steals my license, thereby stealing my soul. I go on a quest to take my soul back.

It starts with a room with these dog-like creatures, and I know that the king left my license with the head of the creatures, who is at the end of the quest. I negotiate my way through the rooms, sympathizing with a guard who has lost all of herself except her fingers, and she keeps them really close. The dog-creature is at the end, and it is ugly. I run away from it; it’s too strong and I still couldn’t summon my weapons.

I go through a graveyard and plant 2 seeds, they grow into 2 jointed trees. Somehow they make me cry, and the crying summons my shield, my bangle, and my armor, but not my sword. I have to battle the king next, and I am nervous without my sword. I try to summon it again. Doesn’t work.

When I woke up it struck me that I never got my soul back. It turned into a fish, along with the rest of souls that king stole.

This is what I drew for The Boyfriend for Valentines day. Honestly, it’s still a work in progress. I really wanted to add in the background, but I can’t seem to find the right style for it. Since I couldn’t finish it in time I put a texture in the back, and it somehow works. For now. .__. The story behind this is… there was once a knight who wanted to spread happiness to people, so he became a Jester and caused a ruckus. On his travels he met a witch, who happened to be a runaway princess. Together they went on many adventures and had a generally awesome time, and eventually fell in love. Neither of them told each other who they really were, because it really didn’t matter. The knight in the jester fell in love with the princess in the witch. Aww.
